Ego Gerontia arcam de proprio com[para]vi. Si qu[is eam aperi]ṛe voluerit dabit fisco arg(enti) pondo V.

TRANSLATION

I, Gerontia, prepared the sarcophagus with my own funds.

Whoever wishes to open it shall give to the fiscus 5 roman pounds of silver.

COMMENTARY

Gerontia is a name of Greek origin, coming from Asia Minor (Holder 1904, 2014).
